Wearable Tech

September - December 2019

The goal was to create something where the user can feel a sense of embodiment with electronics. I wanted them to feel as if they are a robot, or at least have some robotic function. I decided to design a hat with a programmed screen made out of LEDs that is operated by two reflectance sensors mounted inside a pair of glasses. Depending if the user looks right, looks left or closes their eye, the LED screen follows exactly what the person did. By having this function, it turns the gaze, something so human, into something electronic, an LED screen.

This device could also be very useful in the medical world for amputees who cannot use their upper limbs to point directions for example. Instead of pointing at something or showing some sort of direction, you can explain what you want by simply looking at it.
